@APV1 From lots of the posts, very true. Hopefully someone with some sort of even vague medical knowledge might actually add something factual, but not holding my breath on that.

@ markpat - since when did facts, knoweldge or qualifications matter on this forum? You go ahead and theorise. Before long, it'll be "true"..!

Not necessarily convinced that the injuries are a result of the game getting tougher. Lots of the injuries, appear to be ligament damage. The NFL has a lot of the same sort of injuries where big bodies get twisted a lot, so it may have to do with players getting bigger and the weak points in the body not being able to cope as well (knee, ankle, etc.).
Obviously, I have absolutely no medical qualifications, so could be a load of rubbish - just my opinion.

And another one bites the dust.
It just goes to show that their opportubnities to play (and earn) and getting shorter. Are they getting weaker (I doubt it), or is the game tougher (I suspect so). Either way, it's a shame that another player might be permanently crocked.

I hate to be so cynical, but there seems to be a flurry of ageing players retiring recently, although players who you naturally assume will have at least a couple more years. Im not saying this is necessarily the case here, but wonder what the insurance pay outs are like these days for forced retirement? I remember Austin healey saying he turned down £1m to extend his career by 1 season a few years back
