@atg77... Sorry mate my comments are not really referring to the Scots ethnicity, just that they are really quite crap at rugby. However, Scotland has many other redeeming factors like dead poets, kilts and yes that culinary gastronomy "Deep Fried Mars Bars", so there is that...
At the very least you Scots are massive under achievers??? Maybe you should teach that cycling guy how to play rugby.

A good argument here for why Australia haven't won the RWC since the 1999 - that's the 20th Century - last century & why they have lost to Scotland, Samoa, Ireland, Wales, England (the last 2 times). Their players don't respect the jersey they just want to wear it & play in internationals. Wouldn't happen in NZ - the fern is just too important to disrepect with every kids dream being to wear it. Oz on the other hand want to play for.... the most highest paying code. A bit like football.

Trinats, How could we possible believe YOU???
Every loss suffered by the Wannabees, or Reds is the fault of the ref, of some Hoodoo surrounding a ground, and now you are disputing facts quoted by the IRB.

LOL you do make me laugh ,i said Scotland have an oppotunity, they maynot win but it is a great oppotunity for them. Also to say Palmer and Slipper are great is jumpimg the gun imo. They have potential ,but if playing against a real class frontrow would get hammered.Thats why Robinson and Alexander are still your number 1 props and they arnt great either, good but not great.Higginbottom and Denise again have potential but are still along way from being class like Pocock, and its a new untried unit .Barnes is suspect in defence thats why most S15 teams attack his channal ,and imo the centre pairing isnt great either .Australia do have alot of weaknesses in this team you cant see them being overconfidant as usual making you blind to the potential pitfalls .Scotland do definatly have an oppotunity for a win here ,wheather they can take it is the big question .Given their own problems atm.

I've been reading all this criticising the players who move from NZ to Aus.
Why on earth should this be a wrong thing to do, or should it go the other way round?
Australia offers a much better lifestyle, maybe more money and a much fulfilling living. Life is not only rugby: careers end and life goes on.
And anyway, who could criticise the Islanders for their moving to NZ for, mainly, the same reasons? And there are so so many of them playing as All Blacks.
What could (should?) be revisited are the elegibility rules.

It's good to see a few fresh faces on the list, guys that are hungry to play for the golden team. IMO this team will beat Scotland, but most importantly they get international game time.
@jonesy Tomane's was born in Wellington NZ, however I agree that in regards to his upbringing he is Australian. Most of the Kiwi's on here are just having a lend, don't take it to heart, it's not that important.

KiwiLad:
I';ll correct you there. NZ has more registered male adult "players" Heaps more.
anyone involved in rugby in Australia has to register to be insured (my father now nearly 70) helps out with the U8's, (through whats called my Rugby or smart rugby) I'm registered (still play over 35s). These are the standards under the sports edu and bound by the ARU. You also have league kids/adults who play one game of union (better training) before signing with league clubs. So the figures are hugely misleading, Looked good for O'Neill with the "increase in union players" after the 2003 WC. Check the numbers back then !!!!!!!!
Hence why we do not have enough players or funding for a domestic comp.

tomane aint a kiwi. congrats to the new caps.
i guess AAC, mccabe, alexander and simmons are being saved for wales. fair enough.
melkdave -- as usual you have less than no idea if youre calling higginbotham and dave dennis weak you need your head checked, palmer a great scrummager and slipper one of the best young props going around and moore of course is a star. ant faingaa will course scotland a great deal of pain both metaphorically and literally. barnes suspect defensively is surely a joke, the guy played for the broncos for f&%$k sake! god i wonder about people like you seriously, stop writing on here because its just ridiculous.
i also love people thinking scotland can win. if anything the second string team will play much better than a full strength side because they are going to be out to impress.

With greater playing numbers than NZ,, the great yellow league of nations continues.
Aus rugby should have its own State of origin, Those born in Aus VS those born outside of Aus, What a farce that would be.. Imigrants 50 odd Convicts nil

Who holds the Hopetoun Cup (trophy between Australia and Scotland)?
The ARU site records the last match between Australia and Scotland as being in 2006, when Australia won, and retained the HC.
Scotland hold it by virtue of their 9-8 win 21 November 2009, and will defend it tomorrow.

@hellovanite... "well um they're Scottish there's a reason"... whats with the prejeduce remarks? Try and intelligently critisize our performances not our ethnicty you ignorant coward. Scotland under Andy Robinson have defeated Full strength Australian and South African teams, as well as a series win in Argentina... so my claims are not without precident. As for recent results, yes there have been seven straight losses but apart from one they have all been close games. One of the biggest problems was the absence of ball players in midfeild... with Matt Scott and Laidlaw at 10/12, things are going to be alot different. All it takes is everything to click on the day for a Scottish victory.

Only 3 Kiwis in the Oz team?...well that should be enough to deal with Scotland. When Oz take on Wales they will need 4 or 5 of their other New Zealanders to play for them!

Harris was overlooked in the Blues for Lachie Munro.......so you can make your own deductions of the coach and player development people from the Blues....

Mike Harris was not overlooked he was head hunted prior to the start of the season last year so he really voided himself in terms of an NZ contract I know he was in line for a blues contract. Just another money hungry wallet sniffing mercenary. Good luck to the wannabes all the same. As for the fellow who said, "I don't see any reason Scotland can't win this game", well um they're Scottish there's a reason, and well do you really think Aussie are worse than this six nation wooden spoon outfit

Last time I saw a "second-string" wallabies side playing in Australia, it was against Samoa last year.
That was a great sucess. I think it will be the same story against Scotland.

I don't see any reason Scotland can't win this game. They beat Australia at full strength in 2009, and this is a much stronger Scottish team than back then. This is by contrast the weakest Wallabies side ever to have faced Scotland. In fact, it is the first time a second string Wallabies has faced Scotland.

@Trinats2 - Remind me again of the great Wallabies World cup triumph in 2003 when it was played in Australia? A World cup is a World cup & the only other hosts to win the WC are South Africa.
