@ GCP_JONES - I think if you are the best at hurling, you should see the streets of Newcastle on a busy Saturday night!

What?

Not that sort of hurling?

Rugby site, you say?

Sorry. My mistake.

@GCP_JONES - not to rain on your parade, but, recent dominance notwithstanding, Irish sides have won the Heineken Cup five times out of seven; English sides have won it six times out of ten.

I wouldn't take any notice of BWJC's world cup predictions.

He predicted NZ wouldn't get past the 1/4 finals in 2011

@Patato_Smuggler

How can England be considered favourites ??Can you seriously belive a green England team are superior to an Experianced hardened Ireland who are scoring tries .I know Ireland love being the underdog but come on you cant be serious .Nice try though LOL.Hopefully it will be a good game to watch and England will improve again and nick another win but that doesnt make them favourites by any stretch of the imagination

The worst insult you could ever give a professional sportsman is to call him a good loser!

For Gods sake give the arrogant thing a rest. Just because you read somewhere that the English are arrogant its all you bamg on about. If you actually read through the posts on here who are the ones banging on about how many times they've won, and who are the ones telling us that come saturday the English will be on their backs with blood on their faces?! You can spout off Ben Fodens comments all you want, he is one individual and his comments were designed merely to wind people up anyway. We English are not arrogant just because of things that happened hundreds of years ago! Some people need to get a life i think!

@BWJC...

Would 6 Heineken cup finals winning 4 make up for it?,

And remember, it's no use boiling your cabbage twice,or carrying and umbrella if your shoes are leaking.

To be honest I think this is just sensationalism. Probably taken out of context.

There is a concentrated effort underway in the rugby press to motivate England and create the perception that they are the underdogs.

Well they're not. They're probably favourites, for a number of reasons.

If anything, we'll put them back in their place, which is on their backs with a mixture of blood and egg on their faces. Arrogant fools, gotta love em

The editor says.... @Potato_Smuggler: Some of your comments have been deleted because they have nothing to with rugby.

"...when they lose they don't like it." I also heard that water is wet, but I'm yet to verify that.

@ any1buttheABs - I heard that the whole Irish team water-boarded a hotel receptionist until they got upgraded to a suite. Then they had an extra egg each at breakfast, without even a by-your-leave! The arrogance!

Ferris is more likely than Kearney to be in a position to put his money (or body!) where his mouth is on Saturday, anyway - back row and midfield are going to be key to this one. The Irish back row are dynamic, brutal gym-monkeys and given that we've not seen much of Robshaw so far, and the rangy Croft likes pretending he is a centre (he'd probably make a very good one!) Morgan is going to have to step up to the plate big-time for England if they are not going to be swept away like last time (well, last 6N time) in Dublin.

In the centre it is the other way around - I can see Tuilagi causing Ireland some problems there, IF the pack can man up. I'm hoping Robshaw proves me wrong here, so far IMHO he should lose his place to a fully fit Wood after the 6N, if Wood is indeed OK.

I don't find the English Arrogant as a People, in fact I have many english friends and rugby trips in England are amounst the best ( The Rec is a spectacular groung).

The problem here is the delusion of grandure put forward by the RFU.

Three Letters some up English Rugby:

EPS - Elite Player Squad.

It's amazing how very average Aviva premiership Players are "Elite" once they wear the White.

It's that Elitist attitude of English rugby that we find so Very Very Arrogant.

This really is a non story. As has been said all professional teams are bad losers, who wants to lose!?

However, what I would say is if the roles were reversed, I'm not sure as many people would be as quick to point out the wording or jump to the defence of the player... And people like to have a pop at the English media (rightfully in many cases) but they're quick to forget when it's other countries (Jonathon Davies the Parochial Pillock springs to mind).

Still, Ferris remains one of the players of the tournament and whilst I'm hoping he has a bad game on Saturday I'd still pick him in a starting XV for the Lions!

I agree Melkdave, Ferris plays for ulster, so his opinions are probably more colouredby the behavious of Leicester when they got smashed at ravenhill in Januray amd if so, well no body can really disagree with his comments, Leicester were bad losers.

I'm English and to be honest I'm more than happy for this particular England team to get as much flak as possible just to keep them on their toes. I want then to know they are representing the entire country and to conduct themselves accordingly. People saying stuff about them just focuses the mind to behave in the best manner. I'm looking forward to this match, I've got masses of respect for Ireland and Ferris who's a magnificent player, so lets just enjoy it and share a pint of guiness with our Irish mates after the game on St Paddy's day! :oD

This is a non story really i dought Ferris said any thing derogatory at all.As to England being bad losers well ALL PROFFESIONAL SPORTSMAN are bad losers they hate losing. as they want to be the best .Wales -Ireland- France or Scotland all the countries dont like losing. That doresn't mean they dont show sportmanship and give the wining side its due.As to the arrogance thing thats also a myth ALL sides are confidant that they will win on the day .Last weekend against Italy ,Wales supporters where fairly confidant of victory and i remember posters saying 25+ points and it would be a walkover ARROGANCE or just confidance..They where also confidant of a victory against England and that game was very very close and could have been a draw in the end .Again where the welsh supporters ARROGANT or just confidant imo they where just confidant Also both the Ireland and Scotland teams where confidant of victory at the weekend and in the 1st half it was a tight tussel until Scotland imploded after the subsistions.Where either of them ARROGANT no they where just confidant in their abilities. Also all these slights and wrongs from history what possible revalance do they have today ?? Be proud of your heritage ect yes but please dont keep harping on about the past after all there is nothing anyone can do about it and our morals and what we take as civalised behaviour just didnt exsit in those times but have evolved .I dare say in 100-300years time people will look back to our time and think we where uncivalised barbarains ??

rugbybutten says...

Ferris says the lads he was in SA with he gets on with. He would probably have the same comment if the whole England team were there, they are rugby players same as him.

I believe the media hype England up and every 6Ns , they are published as having won the tournament before it has started this isn't the player's words, it's the press. And as for that KNOB John Inverdale.. even 2 weeks ago he still worked out that the last game of the championship could decide the winner (this before Ireland played France ). BWJC may be correct about mental attitude England do have it and that is how they have got to 3 WC finals. I think Wales are finding it, We shall see in Australia this summer.

"Bad losers"... the greatest team for the last 100 years, NZ, it doesn't get any worse. They will even cheat to the point of maiming people to win ...

It's funny how people pluck certain examples of arrogance out of the annals of history.

I bet if I tried, I could find examples of arrogance on just about every nation on earth. I won't because it's pointless. Meaningless.

Ferris's has made a point, whether or not it was commisioned by Nike or intentionally meant to ratlle cages. English representative sides are arrogant. They are well looked after, some will say pampered. Without the occasional reality check these boys who come up through the representative ranks can grow big heads.
