@gcp: there's a comp in the southern hemisphere called Super Rugby. I know you love the AP but you should give Super Rugby a chance. They've got cheerleaders if nothing else.

Lot older than that I'm afraid, Was at the last Munster V Leinster match last Autumn dull as dish water.With so many players leaving the welsh sides at the end of this season the Pro 12 will be even more un-balanced as a spectacle.

Are you trying to tell that your pulse would quicken at say watching Dragons v Edinburgh live from Murrayfield on the the box on a friday night...DON'T THINK SO.

@melkdave: on what planet was roger wilson the 'irish number 8 before his move to england?' he has about 1 cap, probably against the USA or Canada when the frontliners were off touring with the Lions. Reddan wasn't 1st or maybe even 2nd choice scrum half at wasps by end of his time there. he wasn't considered for Ireland cos he wasn't good enough at the time. Downey was a 1 season wonder who will struggle to make an impact with munster next year, no expectation of him doing anything at all. Lastly, stop falling for the Sky Sports led hype about the Premiership! It's a terrible league with weak teams that play awful rugby. Nobody outside of england can bear it.

I do have to say that regarding D'arcy there is no better 12 in Ireland .The annoying thing is there is a better irishmen playing 12 in England J.Downey as im sure hell prove at Munster next year..Kidney just wont pick any irishman playing outside Ireland.Wilson was the irish 8 before his move to England .Also R.Caldwell seems to have been forgotten by irish fans and management he has played for Ireland and was at the time time being hailed as the succesor to DOC or POC and like D.Ryan can also play 6.But since his move to Bath his become invisable .The same can be said for E.Reddan when at Wasps he wasnt even noticed by DK not until he moved back to Ireland did he get picked for the national side ..Kidney im afraid has a big blindspot here and passes over players in form just because they are not playing for irish teams .Also imo the AP is a much harder league than the Pro12 to have success in i dont think any AP team could do without so many top class players for as long as Munster and Lienster do and still win their league most years .After all i think the top players only play 8-9 league games a season i could be wrong on that but i dought it

SOB shouldn't be playing. Saw a picture of him yesterday and his weight loss is very noticeable. I noticed before I had read about him being hospitalised and losing weight. I think POM should replace SOB anyway, but with SOB's illness in mind, the back row should pick itself. Ferris, POM and Heaslip with Heaslip at 6 or 7.

A quick check through the comments and I see it's the usual Munster trolls! hahahahaha Look, try to get this into your heads - Heaslip is the closest thing Ireland have to a genuine turnover specialist, his tireless work on the deck clearly goes totally unseen by the Munster trolls who are probably instead looking at Donncha O'Callaghan's bum hahahahhaaa
By the way that reminds me, lostprofit below is totally right, O'Callaghan is playing rubbish at the moment...his selection in the first three Six Nations was a classic case of Kidney sticking with the old Munster boys. As for D'arcy, there's an argument to be made for him not playing well right now, and he hasn't done so for a good while, but the fact that so much abuse is being hurled his way tells me that there's more to it than simple "fair" criticism. I'm all up for seeing a new player at 12 - McFadden should definitely be given more of a run-out. I've also said it's a crime that Downey hasn't been looked at - Sure he's at Munster next season but by then it could be too late. Kidney hasn't got a clue!!! hahahahaaa

@ Norm. Got to agree with you on Hartley, in fact I've mentioned it before on these boards. It seems that if you do something often enough it becomes the norm (pun) and the officials ignore it. Look at the crooked put in to the scrum, everyone off their feet at rucks, decoy runners taking out defenders. I watched a recent match on the box and on every backs attack there was at least three or four players running ahead of the ball carrier clearing a path. It was more like watching NFL. Don't get me wrong I love to see great decoy lines but not deliberate path clearing. It' high time Paddy O'Brien issued instructions on these game spoilers instead of some of the piddling rules he enforces.

curates_egg - actually, what O'Brien needs to discover is the ball. He's not getting it. So he's not carrying. Carrying was the best aspect of his game last year.

@bluelion - don't forget that Berquist starts and Dominic Ryan (future backrower for Ireland?) gets more game time...
regarding the Sean O'Brien debate, would love to see us develop a view that 6 and 7 and totally interchangeable - heck, make 6, 7 and 8 interchangeable...we are in an enviable position where we have 3 really good back row forwards starting, plus O'Mahony and McCarthy and Coughlan in Munster should hopefully get some game time in the future

Premiership watchers like NH saints celebrate mediocre players due to the rubbish fare they're fed by their clubs week in week out. It the same guys who were pushing James Downey for Ireland last year. Where are they now?? He's now left Northampton cos he couldn't get his place. Poor short sighted signing by Munster.

A: Out of form because he is been played at 7 not 6, its a whole different type of game and not his best position
B: A liability at 8 if the scrum is under pressure and going backwards, which Heaslip is definatly not
All this anti Heaslip talk is getting on my neveres. Will he be mentioned in the top 2/3 number 8's after the tournament? No.
Is he the usless lump a lot of you are making him out to be? Far from it.
Hes doing an excellent job doing the dirty work on the ground that we are not doing a lot of since there is no natural poacher in the back row.
Wilson for Heaslip? Laughable and I am a big fan of him, friends from NH tell me they will miss him more than Ashton but Wilson is NOT a better player.
You want to talk about players not deserving of their places? I present to you Donnacha O'Callaghan (who should have been dropped 2 seasons ago and replaced with the far superior Ryan) Tomas O'Leary (Does Declan even know theres another provence up north?) and D'arcy (too average for too long)

I have been a fan of Heaslip for many years,and I don't like to admit it believe me, but he should be dropped with O'Brien at 8.

Wilson wouldn't beat Heaslip to the squad, even on his poor form. Being a good AP player doesn't make you a good international or even a good HEC player
